Venturing out in the cold of a Chicago winter, the lovely Lady D and I traveled to the heart of Chicago's downtown to Daley Plaza and the Christkindlmarket for some trinket shopping and fun.Browsing the shops, talking to other patrons and feeling the bustle of the city made an atmosphere of holiday excitement, uplifting joy and an appetite.
So we cruised the food vendors- an assortment of German/European delights from sausages to bakery items and nuts. After a brief lunch, we topped it off with a mug of hot wine to insulate us from the cold blast of winds off the lake and continued our shopping till departing back to our humble estate.
Christkindlmarket is an annual event in Chicago running from November 26 thru December 24.
Inspired by the Chistkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg, Germany, Chicago's version opened in 1996 and has grown to the largest Christmas market in the United States hosting vendors from Germany, Austria, the Ukraine, and locals, selling toys, ornaments, Christmas decorations, meats, bakery goods, beer, and wine.
A festive flair in the heart of the city with Christmas choirs, dance groups, brass bands, and carriage rides, along with the local Chicagoans, such as, the street musicians or the "pigeon Lady" who will give you seed to feed these feathered friends.
