Midsummer Night
Upon the Eve
by Wayne Adam
The veil grows thin
As darkness comes
upon the eve of Litha
Creatures roam from the Otherworld
As faeries spin their mischief
Herbs are gathered on this magical night
People wash in waters of rejuvenation
Fires are lit
There's song and dance
For future luck and fortune
Litha approaches in brilliant glory of sunrise
Granting good growth of grain.

Father's Day
Father's Day is here, but many of us don't know how this holiday came about, so here's a short history:
In 1908 a West Virgina Church sponsored the first event explicitly in honor of fathers, a Sunday sermon in memory of the 362 men who had died in the previous December’s explosions at the Fairmont Coal Company mines in Monongah.
In 1909, Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane Washington, tried to establish an official equivalent to Mother’s Day for male parents. She solicited local churches, the YMCA, shopkeepers and government officials to support for her idea, and and on July 19, 1910 Washington State proclaimed the nation’s first statewide "Father’s Day."
In 1916, President Wilson honored the day by using telegraph signals to unfurl a flag in Spokane when he pressed a button in Washington, D.C.
In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge urged state governments to observe Father’s Day.
Remember, your father gave you his name. He is the strength and wisdom of your family. A provider of money, shelter and security. Always respect him and love him dearly.
Happy Father's Day!

From Frozen Lakes to Warm Gulf Streams
I have lived in he Midwest for a long time along the shores of Lake Michigan. I have relocated to the
West Coast (California) and to the home of the Mouse(Orlando, FL) and back to the shores of the lake. A gypsy some could say, or an adventurer, but I prefer to think more long the lines of a roaming spirit. Whatever the case, I have embarked on a new journey and have relocated again, this time to the sunny skies of SW Florida's Sun Coast. Behind me lies the frozen shores of Lake Michigan and ahead are the sandy beaches of the warm gulf waters.
From cold to warm, darkness to light the circle of life turns as I start my journey along a new path.

Christmas Shopping
Venturing out in the cold of a Chicago winter, the lovely Lady D and I traveled to the heart of Chicago's downtown to Daley Plaza and the Christkindlmarket for some trinket shopping and fun.Browsing the shops, talking to other patrons and feeling the bustle of the city made an atmosphere of holiday excitement, uplifting joy and an appetite.
So we cruised the food vendors- an assortment of German/European delights from sausages to bakery items and nuts. After a brief lunch, we topped it off with a mug of hot wine to insulate us from the cold blast of winds off the lake and continued our shopping till departing back to our humble estate.

Christkindlmarket is an annual event in Chicago running from November 26 thru December 24.
Inspired by the Chistkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg, Germany, Chicago's version opened in 1996 and has grown to the largest Christmas market in the United States hosting vendors from Germany, Austria, the Ukraine, and locals, selling toys, ornaments, Christmas decorations, meats, bakery goods, beer, and wine.
A festive flair in the heart of the city with Christmas choirs, dance groups, brass bands, and carriage rides, along with the local Chicagoans, such as, the street musicians or the "pigeon Lady" who will give you seed to feed these feathered friends.
Happy Holidays!

Don't Fear The Reaper
Every culture has different views on dying, from going to an afterlife to a spiritual resting place, like heaven. Whatever your beliefs, there is a time of death for every living thing. Fear or not fearing death is always a personal matter. For me, I choose not to fear cause I believe in the afterlife for I am Druid. So what is your choice?
I only bring this up because I listened to Blue Oyster Cult's-- Don't Fear the Reaper, a great song with a message. Enjoy.

Medieval Lovers
The new issue(#92) of Renaissance Magazine is now on newsstands, which includes my article on Medieval Lovers, here's an excerpt:
Ferdinand & Isbella
Considered the "Catholic Monarchs" of Spain, they united
Castile and Aragon; this duo completed the reconquista by
defeating the last Moorish holdout of Granada, overcame a
civil war, sponsored the voyages of Columbus, expelled the
Jews, and commenced the Spanish Inquisition.

Renaissance is Back!
Upon the Summer Solstice, we enter the light half of the year, when the Sun gods rule and Mother Earth shows her colorful arrays, when rebirth of the spirit is soaring and growing of crops are in full swing--it's a time of rejoicing
and here in the Mid-West it's the start of this year's Renaissance Faires!
So, back to the Bristol Ren Fest will probably be in order and possibly the Ohio Ren Fest as well, of course you never know how Ren crazy I'll get and where I will end up, but I shall see how Summer progresses.
For all of you who read this blog, I offer some inspiration to attend the Ren fest of your choosing this year by posting my poem which originally was published in Renaissance Magazine, Issue # 67--Huzzah!!
Milord, I cannot go,
Milord, I cannot go,
Milady, we’ll have folly,
Milord, I cannot go,
Milord, I am flattered

Invitation to the Faire
By Wayne Adam
Will you go milady,
To the
faire on this fine day?
The
sky is jeweled blue,
Birds
float on breeze,
Cicadas
sing a chorus—
Will
you go with me?
There’s just too much to do
My
duties need attending—
Instead
of spending time with you
Milady, reconsider.
We’ll
shop through the market,
You can look and compare,
I’ll buy you a trinket—
Jewelry to wear
There’s just too much to do
What
would people say of me—
Spending
time with you
See
a joust or two,
Drink
sweet mead,
Take
a walk—
I
will sing for you
There’s just too much to do
What
would people say of me—
Taking
walks with you.
Milady, reconsider.
We’ll
rest upon the hillside,
I’ll
tassel with your hair,
You
can lie beside me,
As
twilight sets upon the faire
But there’s just so much to do
Although,
the day is perfect,
For
mead and walking too
But
my duties need attention
What
will people say?
You
and me at the faire—
Well,
maybe just today
